Sosua is set along a sheltering horseshoe inlet appropriatelly called 'Bahia de Sosua'. We arrived here from Santiago and fell in love with it. We stayed for 4 days at the Waterfront hotel which is a basic but clean hotel in a tropical setting and only a short walk to the beach, best of all the cost was $25us per night for the room, no A/C but due to the cool prevalent trade winds it was never hot. At home in Florida I would not think of spending a summer night without A/C.
While in Sosua, I drove west to Puerto Plata and east to Cabarete, I only found tourists in the all-inclusive resorts, it's ashame that someone vacationing here chooses to be confined to a barbed wire complex.
I always felt safe in the DR, however, as in all poor (3rd world) countries you have to be careful with petty theft, leave you expensive gold watch home and don't show off all your money.
You can use the ATM machines to get money when you need, it works fine and only $1.25us per transaction.
Most ATM machines had an armed security guard. Security guards with short (sawed off) shotguns are in a lot of establishments in the DR (even McDonnalds and gas stations).

I wore sandals, but that did not stop us from giving them a few dollars and share with them our Pizza.

Ana and Melissa experience a popular form of public transportation back to the hotel.

Michael enjoys the pool at the Waterfront hotel.

A favorite pastime of the locals at Sosua - jumping from the cliff.
Looks shallow but it's deep water.

Have no bathing suit?. No problem mon.
